In einem Interview mit dem britischen Guardian bestätigte Mike Anderiesz, Chef von Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), dass man bemüht ist die Kosten der PS3 im laufe dieses Jahres zu senken. Grund dafür sind die Absazueinbußen im Weihnachtsgescäft im Vergleich zum Vorjahr.

Möglich gemacht werden soll das Ganze durch die Änderung der teuren Bauweise der PS3. So wird beispielsweise der 65-Nanometer-Cell-Chips durch einen mit 45 Nanometern ersetzt werden.

Laut aktuellen Zahlen wurden im Quartal 3 des Vorjahres um 10% weniger PS3 Konsolen verkauft. Das sind rund eine halbe Million in absoluten Zahlen. Insgesamt wurden nur 4,46 Millionen Stück verkauft.

Für Sony insgesamt lief es in diesem Quartal nicht besonders. Ein Umsatzrückgang von 32,2 Prozent im gesamten Games Bereich war zu verzeichnen. Einziger Lichblick sind die Anzhal der verkauften PS3 Spiele. Die sind um 57 Prozent auf 40,8 Millionen Einheiten gestiegen.

Die virtuelle Welt von Sony Playstation Home geht ab morgen offiziell in den öffentlichen Beta Test. Bis jetzt hatten ja nur ausgesuchte Tester Zugang. Das Hauptprogramm soll nur rund 80MB groß sein und kann über das Playstation Network downgeloaded werden. Auf der Platte reserviert es dann 3GB.

Playstation Home ist eine virtuelle Welt alá Second Life. Der User hat einen Avatar und kann sich damit durch die Welt bewegen und mit anderen Spielern interagieren. Es wird zum Start einen Text- und Sprach-Chat, diverse Mini-Spiele und Events geben. Neben dem normalen Räumen wird es auch spezielle Ort von Spielen geben. So wird es auch einen Umgebung von Far Cry 2 Theme, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Warhawk, Motorsport und SOCOM geben.

Rockstar schribt in Ihrem neusten Newsletter das am Montag 27.10.2008 ein Update für GTA IV auf der PS3 veröffentlicht wird.
Dieses Update fügt dem Spieler die Möglichkeit hinzu Trophäen zu sammeln.

Diese in die vier Kategorien bronze, silber, gold und platinum unterteilt.

Einige Trophäen wurden schon bekannt gegeben.

One Man Army
only those that are wily enough to survive a 6-star wanted level for a full 5 minutes will be rewarded with this one.

Dare Devil
an award for those who find and execute all of the Unique Stunt Jumps throughout Liberty City.

Chain Reaction
an Achievement for those who can pull off blowing up 10 vehicles in 10 seconds or less.

Liberty City Minute
for those who have completed the game story in less than 30 hours. As the Social Club’s Story Gang leaderboard can attest, this is not an easy feat.

Ein kleiner Ausblick auf die kommende Fw 2.40 und das damit verbunden Update des XMBs:

Head Tracking ist etwas cooles, man kann das Bild in der perspektive des Zuschauers darstellen. So sieht es aus als wäre alles 3D wenn man sich bewegt, nicht nur ein flache Pixelfläche.
Das ganze gibt dem Bild eine richtige Tiefe. Leider funktioniert das nur mit einem Zuschauer.

Vielleicht gibt es ja bald Spiele die so funktionieren. Oder ein Linux Desktop mit Metisse der das benützt wäre ebenfalls cool.

Wie auch in Europa und in den USA wird Sony auch in Japan die beiden PS3 Version mit 20GB und 60GB Festplatte einstellen. Es wird künftig nur mehr das Modell mit 40GB Speicher (Modell “CECHH00″) angeboten werden. Damit fällt auch die Unterstützung von PS2 Spielen durch die PS3.

Einige User von ps2dev.org berichten, das das RSX Exploit um vollen Zugriff auf die GPU zu bekommen behoben wurde.
Demnach wurde wohl der Hypervisor der PS3 einem Update unterzogen.
Wäre wirklich Schade wenn das Exploit wirklich gestopft wurde.

Endlich mal einige wirklich nützliche Features.
DiVX und WMV Unterstützung, Blu Ray Profil 1.1 etc.

A Voice Changer feature has been added to the Voice and Video Chat menu. If you want more information visit eu.playstation.com and consult the “Voice guide included in the “Help and Technical Assistance for PS3″ section.

This feature allows you to change the tone of the sound originated by audio devices, like microphones. It has 5 preset levels and a bass and (what’s the opposite of bass?) scale.

You can alter the tone while using the Voice and Video chat options available in “Friends”

Other 2.10 stuff

Music

* Now you can select the options [Type 3] in Settings > Music Settings > Bitmapping. This bitmapping process has been designed exclusively for the PS3 with the goal of improving the audio reproduction.

Video

* DivX y VC-1 WMV are now compatible.
* The system is now compatible with the Profile 1.1 Blu-ray Disc.
* A [BD data tool] option has been added.
* To play VC-1 (WMV) files you will need to select the option [Activate WMA reproduction], available in the Settings > System Settings
* It’s not possible to play copyrighted files or files compressed with DivX 3.11
* It’s not possible to play files bigger then 2GB
* Now you have several additional features, like the simultaneous reproduction of the videos in the Blu-ray Disc compatible with the 1.1 Profile. The available features vary depending on the disc.
* Stores the management data used by the Blu-ray Disc.

Die nächste Firmware für die PS3, 1.94, wird den DualShock 3 Controller unterstützen.
Damit kann man dann endlich wieder das rütteln spüren.

Die FW 1.94 ist noch nicht downloadbar, sie wird mit dem Spiel Ratchet & Clank Tool of Destruction gebündelt sein.

Der Standard Sixaxis PS3 Controller unterstützt noch kein DualShock, dazu muss ein neuer Controller gekauft werden.
